Jaclyn Fong: Student Project Coordinator

What is your primary role in the Digital Tattoo project?

I’m the student coordinator for the Digital Tattoo project. I manage our blog, write articles and tutorials, and work with the team to facilitate workshops for UBC and UofT classes as well as the broader community.

When did you start working with the Digital Tattoo team?

I started working with Digital Tattoo in May 2023.

How did you get involved in Digital Tattoo?

I was introduced to the Digital Tattoo project in one of the MLIS courses in my first term of study. I have always been intrigued by the subject of digital identity, so I applied for this position when I came across it on the UBC job board. By taking on this role, I can further explore the important topics and trends in forming our online identities.

Why do you believe Digital Tattoo is an important initiative?

Online interaction and communication have become an integral aspect of modern life. As we become more used to this new way of living, we often overlook the potential risks of being overexposed in the virtual world. Therefore, it is important to let people understand the pros and cons associated with technology usage. Digital Tattoo is an initiative that provides relevant resources for people to reconsider and ponder over their digital identity, while also educating them about their rights and obligations as digital citizens.

What do you hope that readers will get out of Digital Tattoo?

I hope this project enables readers to gain a deeper understanding of how their digital identity is shaped. Also, they can have more knowledge to protect themselves while making decisions online.

What are you most passionate about?

I love learning new things and exploring unfamiliar topics to enhance my knowledge. Working with Digital Tattoo allows me to keep up with the rapid technological changes and understand the potential benefits and risks they bring.

What’s something people might not know about you?

I’m an avid traveler who has been to more than 20 countries, including some less visited destinations such as Bhutan and Turkmenistan. Traveling around the world has always been my dream and I love to learn about different cultures.
